Computer Based Training and Testing

Western Power Training specialises in producing computer based training programmes to meet the specific needs of the industry.  Programmes can be modular in design and provide both a learning and a testing/assessment output.

Supporting documentation is provided with all programmes and a full maintenance and updating service is available.

The WPD Authorisation of Engineers programme carries out annual field checks and re-authorisation interviews.

It is managed by a team of qualified examining officers each holding the necessary authorisation codes. They are based at various locations across the company’s region.

One of the most important tools available to the examiners is the Computer Based Training package. This can be used in Learning or in Assessment modes.

Training and Testing
In Learning mode, candidates are offered a choice of units. As they work through the questions, hints guide them to specific Safety Rules information or other WPD policy. The LAN version is password protected, but it can be obtained by staff on request.

Assessment mode provides examining officers with an aide that can be used in several ways:

  • Prior to the authorisation interview, to form the basis for discussion.
  • During the interview, so that the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the Safety Rules can be assessed.
  • As a follow up.
New candidates should work their way through the Learning mode before undertaking the Assessment mode, field checks and authorisation interview.

The Computer Based Training package can generate questions for the specific authorisation codes that appear on a candidate’s authorisation certificate, so the candidate is tested on the knowledge required for those particular codes.

The Training School uses the package prior to internal authorisation courses. It provides candidates with disks that specify question routines so that a level of understanding is achieved before attending the course. The same information can be provided for external candidates via the training website.

WPD will be pleased to  work with external customers to provide appropriate questions in line with their company policies.
